2005-2006 Season

NFL Tournament
2005-2006 was a successful season for the Spartan Speech and Debate squads. In
addition to winning its 5th consecutive State Speech Championship (and 23rd
overall), the team qualified 13 students to the National Forensic League National
Tournament in Dallas, Texas.  

The sophomore Public Forum team of Lisa Amen and Tina Zheng advanced to the
runoff round.  Senior Aaron Stephenson advanced to the octofinal round in
Humorous Interpretation.  Senior Sally Hudson and junior Derek Outson advanced
to the semifinal round where they finished 12th in International Extemporaneous and
7th in Dramatic Interpretation, respectively.  Additionally, junior Shelbi Svoboda
finished in the quarterfinals of Prose Reading, and sophomore Jim Hao made it to
quarterfinals in Expository. (These were supplemental events which Shelbi and Jim
entered after being eliminated from their main event, Student Congress.)  

Other Spartan participants at nationals included:  seniors Solomon Eppel and
Daniel Russell in Lincoln-Douglas debate; sophomore Darja Dobermann in
Original Oratory; sophomore Alexander Churchill in International Extemporaneous;
and seniors William Chen and Alan Fast in Public Forum debate.


Novice Debate Nationals
Lincoln East had one participant in the Novice Debate Nationals in Iowa City.
Freshman Barb Walkowiak placed 5th.


Nebraska State Championship Tournament
Lincoln East was the 2006 State Champion in Speech, our 23rd State Championship!
